Letting Go..of everything

When I first started to create art pieces they were about me and for me. Every piece whether a landscape, a portrait or a still life was from my perspective; from me, about me. How I saw life at the time. Abstract or realistic.
It has always been hard giving away and selling pieces. They are all memories of places, dreams, people, moments in times and emotions. All melded together.
I did learn that other people loving and wanting the art made it easier to let go.
When you have no place for them except in your heart letting them go allows them to live somewhere else with love and admiration. Same goes for people, places and things that you no longer have a place for. Letting go allows space for new experiences, love and life.
As hard as letting go is it can be the most freeing, liberating thing to do. Allowing space to create life..whether that be art, music, new relationships or new experiences can be the best thing you can give yourself.
Let go and create!

In the Spot Light

 In The Spot Light

Putting yourself out there-your art which incorporates all of you; your ideas, your beliefs, your loves, your life. You. On display for all to see . To view, to judge, to criticize and hopefully to love.
You are naked, you become the target. Who sees you? Who is the ‘world’? Everyone. Anyone. Your peers, people who like you, people who love you, people who dislike you and possibly hate you. You don’t get to choose. You stand in the sun and in the pouring rain. That is the Artist.
You take a chance every time you show yourself and as scary as that is, it is a beautiful, freeing feeling just to show the world THIS IS WHO I AM

Happy Summer Solstice!

Summer Solstice
Remember the percolating ideas that Spring brought. Continue to nurture and nourish these.
On days that are dark or discouraging and you can’t seem to pick up a pen, a paintbrush or yourself. Its ok. Your ideas and dreams are safe!
Summer Solstice is another chance, another new year. Cement those dreams and ideas in writing. Rewrite, adjust and fertilize.
The Summer, the sizzle and the heat have just begun. What you think, act on, start to create now you will reap in the Fall. Replenish, pick out the weeds, feed yourself and your soul.
Build it and let it build. Tend to them and yourself like a garden.
Its time
Happy Solstice.

My Life as an Artist

My Life as an Artist

When I was a child I wandered in the woods and adored the outdoors. I would write poems and paint pictures and I was in love with the world. The woods were my refuge, my secret and my home.
Somewhere along the way the world changed. I changed. Art was still with me, but it came from a different place, a darker place, a more soulful place. I turned away from my connection with nature and connected with concrete.
In my darkest moments of loneliness and Existential angst, I would paint from pain. I would paint people, places & times out of my life. When the piece was done so was the emotion. It was very cathartic…and it served me well.
Life changes even more & I find myself in the “in between” space. Back where I belong…in the woods, with nature, in a much brighter space but a much different space then where I began. With an even greater appreciation and need to express as an artist..to express the beauty & sacredness of the natural world. To give a voice to the trees, the rocks, the animals, ultimately giving a voice to those that have none.
The happiness in creating for me is to show the beauty of the world in both the light and the dark.
Everyone has a gift they are meant to bring to the world and I found it. I knew it as a child, lost it in chaos and found it again. I painted myself back into existence. Well worth the journey.

Walking with Ghosts

Walking with Ghosts

My horoscope said my voices were gone. My loved ones departed, my spirit guides & angels, ghosts of friends gone from my life. All left me to fend for myself. No wonder I’ve been feeling alone! It made me think of the people that touch your life. Sometimes in a profound way and then disappear. Where do people go?
Did you scare them? Did you neglect them? Were you not the person they thought you were? Or maybe it had nothing to do with you.
Silence is the loudest voice.
Connections broken.
I’ve written about painting people/places/emotions out of your life. I’m thinking of painting them back in.
The love of a pet long departed, a best friend disappeared from your life, a lover long gone
Take the feeling, the connection and paint it back in.
What is the colour?  What is the feeling? Try to capture it. Was it gentle like a water colour wash on wet paper? Was it bold and passionate like a pallet knife and oil paint? Was it paynes grey or cadmium red? Sculpture or a painting?
Its possible the connection is physically gone forever. It is a way to honour that imprint on your life. A piece of your tapestry. A piece of your web.
