After a long, treacherous, never ending winter there are signs that Spring is emerging! The smell of dampness, rain and an ache in the bones that is hard to shake…but you don’t care because you know there are better days to come.
What to do when Winter has drained all your creative energy?  When sparks left over from the past are non-existent, put out intentionally or unintentionally. No sparks. Not even the small signs of Spring are enough.
The idea of ‘Spring Cleansing’, of ‘Spring Cleaning’ comes to mind. Getting rid of ‘stuff’. If your mind, your heart, your home are filled with ideas, people & things that no longer have a place in your heart its hard to let anything new in. Empty & let go. Be brutal. Clean house on all levels. Let go of dust covered mementos that no longer have meaning, let go of people that drain or take rather then feed you, let go of old ideas and plans you will never get to. Do it for everything: clothes, books, projects, people.
If it doesn’t bring you joy anymore let it go. If its something “you may get to someday’ or you are holding on to hopes that ‘something may happen one day’..let it go. If it’s meant to happen it will. Bigger, brighter and better.
They are all things that take up space in your psyche and your environment. Clutter.
Creativity needs ‘new’. It needs space to develop. Like a fire needs to breathe so does creativity. So do you.

Give yourself the gift of ‘letting go’ and emptying out. As hard as letting go can be holding on can be much harder. Happy Spring..and getting some creativity sparked!

How to get your Creative Mojo Back!

Tips on how to get your creative mojo back

After months of darkness, cold days, frigid nights, no sun  and an incredible desire to do nothing it’s time to start stirring again. Here are a few tips to get started
·     *Take 5-10mins to meditate daily: to empty the mind of the worries of the past and the anxieties of the future. Of words said & unsaid, of scenarios you can’t change, the “what ifs”, the fears of loss and lack. This will give you the space for new ideas, new insights, dreams and inspirations.
·     * Heighten your senses: Instead of running through life..SLOW down. Take it all in. In a single moment or event notice shapes, textures, scents, temperature, colours and sounds  . Life becomes way more exciting and stimulating when you tune in.
·     * Get out of your creative comfort zone: try something new! If you paint with acrylics paint with watercolours. If you paint, try sculpture. Paint blindfolded with abandon. Don’t play it safe! Expanding your boundaries opens all kinds of possibilities.
·     * Take time for solitude; take a wander in nature, in silence if possible. Breathe and observe. A simple 20min walk can do wonders to lift the spirit, re-energize and re-inspire. Do it often.
·     * Be gentle on yourself. If your creative juices aren’t over-flowing, your passion is a mere spark or non-existent…don’t worry it will come back !

The Sleeping Trees

The Sleeping Trees

As the last leaves drop from the trees and as the trees let go of what was they let themselves go bare. Allowing themselves to stand naked, no foliage to hide behind. They stand alone together to sleep and to dream allowing Winter to envelope and throw a blanket of darkness over them.
They go within.
A reminder to let go of what was and be open to what will come. Stay in the moment. Remember that hibernation and reflection allows for much needed down time. Allow for it. A rest from action. A time to repair, to empty and let new ideas germinate and grow.
Even creativity needs  a rest. To regenerate, to renew and to refill.
Write ideas down, sketch but don’t force it. Be like the trees..allow for the silence. The ideas will come and creativity will come back.
It always does.

Enjoy the dreamtime!

The Light is Dimming

The light is dimming. Mornings are dark, hard to catch a ray of sun after 6pm.
A little less outward energy, with a little more reflection and self-reflection.
Creative fires are dimming.
Getting ready for the big sleep.
The ideas/projects/dreams of Spring or Summer not come to fruition?
Not enough time? Not good timing? Not finished?
Discard the frustrating ones. Keep the important ones. Some of the creative embers from the fires of other seasons can be dreamt with until Spring.
Curl up and dream with them but remember to dream other dreams too. Realize that there will always be new dreams, new ideas and new creative projects. If the embers of old dreams cant be brought back to life know that there will always be something new to spark creativity. That is what Spring is all about. That is what life is all about.
Prepare to hibernate. Until then draw something, write something and create something every day. These may well become the ‘slow builders’ in the Dreamtime of Winter to re-emerge in the Spring as the catalysts to spark the creative forces within.
Happy preparation for the Dreamtime!
